In September, we recognize National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. In the spirit of this important observation, we would like to share some mental and emotional health tools available to you through Magellan Health.
Mind your Mental health:
A webpage featuring articles, videos, and access to mental health organizations. The purpose of this webpage is to raise awareness and provide education about both mental illness and mental health.
Counseling:
Magellan Healthcare offers three sessions of counseling per issue, per year for you and your household members. Counselors and therapists can be accessed through either BetterHelp.com/Magellan or via the Provider Search tool on the Magellan Healthcare website. These services can provide support, guidance, and education on how to improve mental and emotional well-being.
Well-being Coaching:
Magellan offers six free sessions per year with a certified coach who is trained to provide support in setting and reaching goals in any aspect of your life. Well-being coaches support work performance, health goals, and other personal improvement plans.
Recipe of the Month: Pinto Bean and Poblano Soup
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice
- 1 ½ teaspoon canola oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 large poblano peppers, chopped
- 4 grated garlic cloves
- 1 ½ teaspoon cumin
- 1 ½ teaspoon coriander
- 4 teaspoons vegetable bouillon base
- 2 15.5 oz cans of pinto beans, rinsed
- 1 medium avocado, diced
- chopped cilantro and paprika for serving
Directions:
- Cook rice per package directions.
- Heat oil in a medium saucepan on medium heat
- Add onion and all but ⅓ cup of chopped peppers and
cook until tender (6-8 minutes), stirring occasionally. - Stir in the garlic, cumin, and coriander. Add the bouillon base and 1 ½ cups of water until the mixture thickens slightly (3-5 minutes)
- Add 1 cup of beans. Blend the remaining beans in a blender along with 1 ½ cups of water until smooth. Stir into the simmering mixture and keep on the heat until heated through (about 3 minutes)
- Divide into four bowls. Stir in a spoonful of rice and the rest of the Poblano pepper to each.
- Finally, top each with avocado, cilantro, and a pinch of paprika.
